Twitter is one of the most influential social media platforms and a great way to build an online presence for your business. However a lot of businesses find it difficult to engage with their audience and build followers.

Below are some of the best ways to revitalise your Twitter account!

1. Organise your followers
There are different groups of people that you need to follow on Twitter such as; customers, suppliers, competitors and neighbouring businesses. Although it’s great to grow your online community, it can become harder to catch the important messages amongst all the others.

‘Twitter lists’ allows you to group the important people you follow so they don’t get lost in the noise of everyone else.

By creating a Twitter list you can focus on tweets from separate groups of people and decide when you want to see them, this way important updates won’t go unseen.

Below is an example of how a list can be categorised and made to be useful.

2. Update your profile picture
It seems like a simple suggestion but your Twitter picture appears next to every tweet you send. It’s an opportunity to associate an image with your business.

Make sure your business logo fits into the square size profile picture. Cropped-off logos look unprofessional and give the impression that your business doesn’t care about details.

Make sure your business logo is readable. If your logo contains words that cannot be read, you are wasting the space. Create an image without words that captures the identity of your business.

Below is an example of how using a simple logo can be as effective without words.

3. Change your visual branding
The great thing about Twitter is that it allows you to customise the look and colours of your profile page. You can use your profile page to provide additional information about your business to everyone who checks out your profile.

Experiment with different ideas and customise your page to illustrate the personality of your business and what you can provide for your customers.

4. Make sure you are following your customers on Twitter
Twitter is a great place to connect with your customers. However it’s impossible to know which of your customers are on Twitter, therefore you have to advertise your Twitter account, and this will allow your customers to find you.

Customers will start conversations or ‘@mention’ your business; you should encourage this and follow everyone who talks about your company and its services. You can also set up a saved search on Twitter so you can find people talking about your business. Always reply to people who mention your business and follow them. You should also re-tweet their updates and tweets, this will make them feel appreciated and a part of your brand.

5. Add photos to your tweets
People love images. Recent statistics demonstrate that people are more likely to read stuff online if you include images and videos. This means that just by adding photos to your tweets, there will be a great deal more interest and attention to your updates.
