Search engine optimisation
Search engine optimisation or SEO is a very emotive subject. SEO has been around since the beginning of the web, and people have been pertaining to be experts for many years. At Servon Design we like to keep it simple...and incidently; so do Google!!.
First and foremost your website is for your customers, clients and users...NOT for Google. We understand that appearing high in Google’s rankings is important, but after that, its down to the users of the website and what action they are likely to take when landing on a page of your website.
There have always been tips, tricks and shortcuts for getting your website ranked highly in the search engines. In todays marketplace, most, if not all, of these techniques are old hat and will not work (some actually never worked!).
The way for a website to perform well in the search engines today is a combination of a number of things, not just about optimising your web pages for specific keywords. Its now getting quite complex and involves things such as how you engage with social media, how your website performs from a technical viewpoint and the overall trustworthiness of a company and its website.
Technical issues with your website can and should be fixed. Whether its duplicate content caused by a bad cms implementation, or poorly constructed navigation, or the ‘page speed’ of your website pages is slow. It could be issues with the browser caching not set up correctly on your server, or an issue with the server that your website sits on.
Although keywords are important, it's clear that overstuffing your website with keyword phrases can actually be harmful. A simple rule of thumb is that if a page of text seems repetitive when you read it, then more than likely you are overdoing it. See this article by Karon Thackston.
Link building for the sake of getting as many incoming links is also a thing of the past. What needs to be concentrated on all revolve around producing real content. Start a blog and add real informational content to your website, and above all make it as interesting as you can. Also get a real social media strategy in place and start sharing content.
By keeping it simple and not trying to ‘trick’ the Google algorithms your website should look trustworthy to Google. By keyword stuffing or adding links to your website from untrustworthy websites, you do run the risk of falling foul of google's guidelines.
There are important steps that should be carried out, we can help you go through the steps needed.
PPC advertising
It's true that anyone can get themselves a Google Account and start advertising with Google adwords. This can easily be done through Adwords Express. However, as an advertising platform, there is a lot more to advertising than meets the eye.
There are now more features and ways of setting adwords up than you care to mention. At a recent specialist agency event in London it was announced there would be 103 new features appearing in the next year (thats basically one new feature every three days).
Unless you are working with adwords on a consistent basis, it's impossible to keep up with all the new additions and techniques. At servon design this is where we can step in.
We are able to help at any stage of an adwords campaign, whether setting up a campaign from scratch, or adjusting an existing campaign to achieve a better return on Investment. As part of the Google ‘Engage for Agencies’ programme, we also have direct access to Google account managers, meaning you are able to benefit, not only from our knowledge, but from the experts at Google. For new clients we also have access to adwords coupons.
